Igloo challenge

What are Igloos?
The igloo is a snowhouse that was used by the Inuit as a temporary shelter on extended winter hunting trips, but not as a permanent home. An igloo can be built in about twenty to thirty minutes - depending on the quality of the snow and the skill of the builder.

How are Igloos made?
Blocks of snow are cut from snow banks using a snow knife and are arranged in the shape of a dome - not row upon row, but rather in a single spiral. Joints are filled in with snow and a hole is cut for ventilation.

Drama sessions

This term, we have had drama sessions led by Inga Linklater. We each created characters of an imaginary Old Orkney family. We have been learning to adapt and sustain our roles and act out daily routines and chores that people in 18th Century Orkney would have done. We practised performing to an audience and being able to accept and give constructive feedback to each other.

Final Day of activites at Nethy Bridge

The scorching weather continues still....

Activities today started with an awesome trip down the zip wire.

We got a visit from 'Derek'

and finished our Nethy Bridge adventure with a 'sing song' round the camp fire.

Looking forward to telling our stories when we get home.

Arrived at Nethy Bridge

After a beautiful calm crossing, we headed to Brora on a comfortably cool bus, where we enjoyed a cool ice cream whilst basking in the sun.
Following this, we continued to Nethy Bridge where we were met with a even more sunshine and a warm Mediterranean breeze.
'Just like Spain' commented one of the pupils.
