How effective is blubber as an insulator for animals in the Arctic?

We have been learning about animals in the arctic and how they can adapt to the icy cold conditions. We carried out a 'blubber mitten' experiment to find out how effective blubber is in keeping the animals warm in the freezing cold water. Our prediction was that the lard, used as blubber, would help to keep our hands warm in the cold water.  We were right! Here are some of the pictures:
